Description
The Kaevur are equal parts mercenary, miner, and engineer. Once a federation of pawky interstellar explorers, the Kaevur Authority is now a culture built around duty and trade. In addition to being fierce warriors, Kaevur technology is highly-valued throughout the galaxy for its durability and advanced design.
With the sudden arrival of the Dominion, the Kaevur were quick to establish a trade agreement over the unmined asteroid cluster surrounding Sarin’s Rim; leaving the newly-claimed planet to the militant Dominion. While relations are strained, the Kaevur Authority and the Dominion have so far been profitable allies.
The Kaevur are equal parts mercenary, miner, and engineer. They are a people who see no contradiction in wielding a plasma cutter with the same confidence as a pulse rifle. Once a loose federation of pawky interstellar prospectors, they carved their early reputation by venturing into regions of space others deemed too unstable, too barren, or too dangerous to bother with. Over generations, those scattered prospecting clans consolidated into the Kaevur Authority, a culture now defined by duty, contractual honor, and the steady churn of interstellar trade. Their society prizes practical skill above all else; a Kaevur’s worth is measured not by lineage but by the problems they can solve and the structures they can build.
Despite their pragmatic nature, the Kaevur are far from mere laborers. Their warriors are renowned for their tenacity, fighting with the same methodical precision they bring to engineering. Kaevur technology, rugged, modular, and designed to survive decades of abuse, is coveted across the galaxy. From mining rigs that can chew through neutron-forged stone to exo-frames capable of shrugging off battlefield shrapnel, their craftsmanship is synonymous with reliability. Many factions rely on Kaevur-built infrastructure, even if they would never admit it publicly.
When the Dominion arrived in the Sarin’s Rim sector, the Kaevur recognized both a threat and an opportunity. Rather than contest the newly claimed planet, they negotiated swiftly, securing exclusive rights to the vast unmined asteroid cluster that rings the system. The Dominion, eager to consolidate its foothold planetside, accepted the arrangement allowing the Kaevur to establish a network of extraction platforms and trade stations while the Dominion fortified the world below. It was a pragmatic division of territory, if not an entirely comfortable one.
Relations between the two powers remain tense, shaped by mutual suspicion and wildly different philosophies. The Dominion respects strength and conquest; the Kaevur respect contracts and craftsmanship. Yet for all their differences, the alliance has proven profitable. Dominion war engines rely on Kaevur alloys, and Kaevur convoys benefit from Dominion patrols that keep pirate guilds at bay. For now, both sides tolerate the uneasy partnership, each calculating that cooperation, however strained, is more advantageous than open conflict. How long that balance holds is another matter entirely.
